Here’s a silly Christmas-themed piano composition worksheet.
In this activity, kids think of a funny reason why Santa got stuck. Maybe he drank too much eggnog or maybe the reindeer filled his coat with snow… I’m sure your creative kids will come up with something hilarious. Kids then write in the rest of the lyrics with their funny reason.
Next, kids compose a melody for the song. I ask my students to use only the notes that we’re focusing on at the time. My youngest students are learning the bottom, middle and top line notes of the treble staff. Their songs will probably sound like something from the twilight zone, so maybe aliens had something to do with Santa getting stuck…
Younger students can just focus on the melody, since for them this activity is intended to help them learn their notes. Older students can figure out both melody and rhythm and draw in bar lines where appropriate.
I’ve noticed that silly, lighthearted themes inspire kids to get really creative. I hope your child enjoys this activity.
