Which Christmas songs mean the most to you?
To me, Silent Night is a deeply spiritual hymn. One moment will always be special, even sacred to me. It was while I was living in Brazil. We went to the chapel to attend a small church service. Very few people were in attendance, but there was something about that evening that made it almost magical. We sang “Noite Feliz”–the Portuguese version of Silent Night. The small group of believers sang from their hearts of that sacred, silent night when the Christ Child was born. I will never, ever forget how I felt that evening.
Another song is meaningful to me because of an inside joke I have with my father. Every time we hear We Wish You a Merry Christmas my dad nudges me and laughs. He’ll recount that when I was a very young child, we walked past some carolers who were singing this song. I looked up at my father with a troubled face and asked, “Dad, why are they singing about me?” Apparently I thought they were singing “We wish you a merry Kristin.”
