Our piano blues lyrics contest goes live on Monday!
We had some super creative entries that I can’t wait for you to see.
Here’s how voting works:
Review the lyrics and then scroll down to the poll box at the bottom of the page.
Select your favorite lyrics and then hit the orange “vote” button.
The poll blocks repeat voting on the same day, but if family members all want to vote they can do so by waiting a day or voting from a different location. You are also welcome to invite friends, family, neighbors and anyone else to vote.
The entries are divided into two groups:
Voting for Group 1 will be open Oct 7-8.
Voting for Group 2 will be open Oct 9-10.
The entries with the most votes from each group will then be entered into the final round. Final round voting will be open Oct 11-12.
The winner gets a $10 Amazon gift card, so support your favorite lyricist by voting and spreading the word. Let’s give these kids a huge confidence boost and let them know how proud we are of their efforts and creativity!

I would love to HEAR their blues compositions, but when I click on that option I am sent to this page with not option to listen to them! I am sending this to all of my piano students, as we learn the 12 bar blues in our third lesson in the Simply Music Piano method and many other blues pieces after that, as well as encouraging composition and improvisation from the first lessons! I LOVE your site and am using many of your ideas in my teaching! Thanks for all of the hard work you are doing to encourage music students everywhere to use their “right brain” and “think outside the box”!
With love and music,

Thanks, Susan, for making me aware of my mistake! I’ve updated the link now so you should be able to hear the blues piece–just scroll down to the blue box and hit the play button. It’s a recording of the blues on piano which the students listened to as they wrote their lyrics. Next week I’ll post a video tutorial that kids can watch to learn how to play the blues themselves.
