Is there a fee for participation?
Nope.
What is the purpose of this contest?
To keep kids excited about learning the piano. I always see a new burst of commitment after I do a fun contest with my students, and I’m sure you’ll see the same thing with your students. After the contest is over, I’ll post a video tutorial showing how to play this blues piece. Kids will be exposed to a fun new style and have a big sampling of fun lyrics to sing as they play.
I’m a piano teacher, can my students participate?
Yes. Any or all of your students can submit lyrics. You can email me their entries, or you can ask them to email me from home.
I’m a parent, can my child participate?
Yes. You’re welcome to submit your child’s entry.
How is the winner chosen?
I’ll post the entries on my site and open up a poll. Everyone visiting the site will be welcome to vote. Whichever entry gets the most votes wins.
Can students submit lyrics with any theme?
Yes. Any theme is welcome, except for obscene or improper themes. Entries with profanity will not be accepted.
Are pictures required?
Pictures are not required. I do think that pictures make these contests more fun, as you can see here: Oriental Piano Composition Contest. You’re welcome to do whatever is easier for you–submit lyrics only, or lyrics with a picture.
When are entries due?
Oct 4, 2013
Is there a prize for the winner?
Yes. The winner gets a $10 Amazon gift card.
